Jeep ID

Over the years there have been several changes and model identifiers used in the Jeep model line.  The following information should make it a bit easier to identify what Jeep model you have.

This is just a start.  We will continue to expand with further info as we get it put together.

Jeep CJ-5 (Search for Jeep CJ-5 Parts)


Jeep CJ5The Jeep CJ-5 with the longest production run was in production from 1954-1983 with a total production run of 603,303.

The CJ-5 can easily be identified by its door opening as compared to the CJ-7 & Wrangler models.  

Jeep CJ-7 (Search for Jeep CJ-7 Parts)


Jeep CJ-7The Jeep CJ-7 was introduced in 1976 and ran until 1986.  The major difference in the CJ-7 over the CJ-5 was an extended wheelbase and modified door opening.  In its 11 year run 379,299 CJ-7's were produced.

Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler (Search for Jeep CJ-8 Parts)


Jeep CJ-8 ScramblerIn 1981 the Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler was released.  This was essentially a truck version of the Jeep CJ-7.  Their were 27,792 Jeep Scramblers produced before production came in an end in 1986.

Jeep YJ WranglerThe Jeep YJ Wrangler was produced from 1987-1995.  There were several small changes from the CJ-7 including the change to square headlights and wider leaf springs on the front axle.

Jeep TJ Wrangler RubiconAfter skipping the 1996 model year the Jeep TJ Wrangler was released in 1997 and continued on until 2006.  The TJ Wrangler brought about a coil spring suspension and also marked the return of the round head lights.

Jeep LJ Unlimited WranglerThe Jeep LJ Unlimited Wrangler was produced from 2004-2006 and was basically and extended version of the Jeep TJ Wrangler.

Jeep JK WranglerThe current model Jeep is the JK Wrangler.  This version is available in both 2 and 4 doors models.  The old school straight 6 has also been replaced by a V-6 in these models.
